Nov 11 - The Aurora departs Davis

The Aurora Australis was scheduled to leave at 2pm, with all the departing Davis winterers, (as well as the poor blighters who were due to go to Casey but now have to return to Hobart first thanks to the totally disrupted shipping schedule), so we had to depart all rooms on board, clean them, and transfer into Davis Station. For all us Mawson crew, we will wait here until the weather is OK for a helicopter flight over
the ice shelf to Mawson, sometime ?? in the next week or 3.

I walked the 3km from the ship into "town" across the ice with Dave, one of the two Mawson biologists, and despite it being -8, once again I was overheated and sweaty thanks to my bright orange freezer suit.

A brief ceremony at 1pm for the departing crew, then the handover of the station to the new crew and I went and located my belongings which had got scattered about somewhat as part of the transfer.
