Nov 15 - A trip in the Hagg

After a few days of blizzard, the weather improved a little, so I
went with one of the scientists, to check on his camp out at one of the saline lakes where he has been gathering specimens for the last week or so. His team left several tents of equipment there and he wanted to check it had held together in the bad weather. So we went out in one of the hagglund vehicles - crazy rubber-tracked devices made in Sweden which travel up to about 50km/hr but from the inside the noise they make is more like you're about to go through the sound barrier.

It was driven by one of the wintering guys, and we had a "Field
Training Officer" with us to assess the path, and, I don't know, get
the lie of the land or something. We got abotu 20 minutes out on the 1 hour drive when the weather was so crappy and there was, strangely, water over the ice, so we turned back - the risk being that you can't see where there may be new cracks in the ice. It turned out that there had been very high tides, and combined with the blizzard, that had flooded the ice, and it settled back to normal within a few days, but for us it just meant we turned around and went back to the station.

Not much to do there, so we had a few games on the arcade game
console in the bar. the preference is fro 'Elevator Action' a very silly game from the early 80's that i used to play.. in the early 80's.
